History

Believed to be one of the oldest hotels in Britain, much of the building dates from the early fifteenth century.

The earliest history of the building is difficult to establish, but local parish records indicate that in 1459 the house was owned by Thomas Bladon, who bequeathed two cows and six sheep to the village church which stands opposite the hotel today.

In 1485 the year of the battle of Bosworth, it was purchased by Winchester college and owned by them for the next 300 years.
